Once on to the surface of the river, green drakes become duns. Duns are sexually immature mayflies that lack mouth parts to eat. Their main goal is to dry their wings and get off the surface of the water as quickly as possible so that they can molt into a sexually mature mayfly and find a mate. This phase is what the Green Drake Fanwing imitates, the green drake duns that have just freshly hatched. The Green Drake Fanwing will sit upright on the surface just like how a dun would as it waits for its wings to dry.

  • Catskill style dry fly.
