Caddis are off-and-on during the fall but that doesn't mean you can't imitate what larvae are already crawling around on the bottom. Because of its all-around bugginess, you certainly can fish this pattern anytime and not just when caddis are out-and-about. Target pocket water and deep pools along banks.
